Success Story: Internet of Things / Artificial Intelligence (IoT / AI)

The world is digital: Digital transformation is having a long-term effect on everything: how we live, how we communicate and how we work. Its basis consists of digital technologies that are constantly changing and improving. The use of digital technologies in various areas enables the comprehensive and lasting change of companies at high speed.

One important component of digital technology is the Internet of Things. The IoT enables physical and virtual objects to be networked with each other and with the Internet. With the IoT, applications can be automated and tasks can be completed without external intervention. In this case, humans are responsible for controlling the intelligent objects, whereby the influence on these objects is limited. The connection to the Internet enables smart devices to act independently, adapt to situations and respond to specific scenarios.

AI is gaining more and more in importance these days. Intelligent apps, intelligent machines, intelligent chatbots, intelligent robots, etc. In the recent past, AI has achieved many things that were only expected in the future: from chatbots to automation, predictive analytics and machine learning. And it learns at breathtaking speed. Terms such as deep learning and neural networks play an important role here. Many companies are using AI and machine learning to strengthen their business operations. ACONEXT has also been active for around one year now in the development of services and the team for new technology topics such as AI and IoT.

ACONEXT has already conducted several workshops on current technology topics. At the workshop “AI meets Aftersales”, subject-specific case studies for aftersales were developed in cooperation with one of the largest technology suppliers and automobile manufacturers in Stuttgart. One case study included the development of an intelligent support bot for the migration of internal systems to ensure a smooth transition. The bot will serve as an author’s guide. Another case study referred to the development of an intelligent auto-completion bot for spare parts documentation, to enable consistent use of terms and reduce search times.

Another internal workshop entitled “AI meets PLM” aimed to find solutions for the activities of our employees. The aim is to use AI to facilitate our employees’ duties, in order to help them use their skills in a variety of ways. ACONEXT is currently in the process of implementing the case studies.

ACONEXT’s employees and skill sets are currently still in the expansion phase with regard to new technology topics such as Microsoft Azure, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), cognitive search for image analysis and speech learning, chatbot development, intelligent apps, digital twins, conversational platforms, anomaly detection and process automation.
