Coupling the mechanical drive system with the electrics and electronics is a fundamental prerequisite for autonomous driving. For example, the drive and transmission systems were previously controlled and monitored via separate control units. In the future, all vehicle functions will be included. The automobile of the future is a high-performance computer on wheels, it “thinks for itself”, networks with other vehicles and in the foreseeable future will even be able to drive completely autonomously.
